PRP for Hair
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment. In this procedure, a person's blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. It is said that PRP injections activate natural hair growth and maintain it by improving blood supply to the hair follicle and increasing the thickness of the hair shaft.
PRP therapy process
PRP therapy process is done in three steps. Often PRP therapy needs three treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Step 1
Your blood is drawn usually from your arm and put into a centrifuge machine which spins speedily to separate fluids of different densities.
Step 2
After centrifugation, your blood will have separated into in three layers:
- Platelet rich plasma
- Platelet poor plasma
- Red blood cells
Step 3
The platelet-rich plasma is taken into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth. It can be slightly painful, so doctors normally use topical anesthesia to avoid any discomfort.
