SM Peel

This chemical peel uses a combination of Salicylic Acid and Mandelic Acid, and are very effective in active acne lesions as well as hyperpigmentation. This solution is considered specially beneficial for those with darker skin tones. Darker skin is more prone to keloids – which are raised scars that occur with acne. Keloids may not respond well to some other chemical peels like TCA, and require a gentler approach. Mandelic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds, and is an excellent alternative to glycolic acid. Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and a favourite of dermatologists the world over in treatment of acne and acne-related skin issues. AHAs are water soluble antioxidants and very effective in exfoliating the surface layer of dead skin cells. BHAs are oil-soluble antioxidants, which means that they are able to seep into and absorb sebum and oil clogged pores, thus helping clear oily, acne-prone skin. The SM Peel is a combination of these two antioxidants and offers excellent benefits without being harsh on the skin, or causing any drastic skin tone changes to darker skins (which stronger chemical peels may do). With regular use, mandelic acid has been shown to improve sun-damaged skin also. We recommend a consultation with our doctors who will recommend the best procedure and treatment plan for you. Remember to tell your doctor about any medication or skin products you are using. As with other peels, you may experience minor redness after the procedure which fades away within a day or so. Standard precautions like limiting sun exposure must be taken
